Toddler Swimming Lessons in Sentosa

Parent-and-toddler swimming lessons at your Sentosa Cove condominium wading pool or private pool. Short, playful sessions that build water confidence, breath control and the first safety skills.

  • Parent in the water
  • 30-minute lessons
  • Wading pool based
  • Gentle, no forced submersion

What toddlers learn

The goal at this age is not strokes. It is a child who is happy in water, can hold their breath on cue, float with support and get back to the edge. Those skills make the kids programme later much easier.

Trust and comfort

Songs, games and gentle movement so the pool becomes a place of fun rather than fear. Parents learn safe holds.

Breath control

Blowing bubbles, then brief submersions on a verbal cue. Always led by the child's readiness.

Floating with support

Back floats with a parent's hands under the head and shoulders, gradually lightening the support.

Kicking and reaching

Kicking on front and back, and reaching for the wall or a parent, the beginnings of propulsion.

Edge and exit

Turning back to the wall after entering, holding on and climbing out. A core safety skill for pool-side homes.

Independence by three

By around three, ready toddlers begin short assisted swims to the coach, preparing for lessons without a parent.

Why the wading pool at your condo is ideal

Most Sentosa Cove developments have a wading pool: The Coast, The Oceanfront, Cape Royale, Marina Collection, Turquoise, Seascape and The Berth all list one. Shallow, warm and familiar, it is the perfect classroom for a toddler, and it is a lift ride away rather than a car journey to the mainland.

Because you are already at home, lessons can be timed around naps and meals, and a tired toddler can be dried off and inside within minutes.

Lessons are 1-to-1 with the coach guiding a parent and child, or occasionally a pair of toddlers with their parents when the children are similar in age. Sessions last about 30 minutes.

See lesson notes for developments with wading pools such as Marina Collection, Seascape and The Coast, or the full list.

Toddler or baby programme?

Under about 18 months, choose baby swimming lessons, which focus on gentle water familiarisation with a parent. From 18 months, toddlers can follow simple cues and begin purposeful skills, which is where this programme starts. From four, most children are ready for kids swimming lessons without a parent in the water. If you are unsure, tell us the child's age and we will advise.

Toddler lesson questions

Does a parent have to be in the water for toddler lessons?

Yes, at least at the start. Toddlers learn through a trusted adult. From around three, and only when the child is ready, the coach begins taking over holds so the child gets used to swimming with the coach alone.

Can my helper do the lesson with my toddler instead of me?

Yes, if the helper is a confident swimmer, is comfortable in the water and is the person who usually takes the child to the pool. Consistency matters more than who it is.

My toddler cries at the pool. Should we wait?

Not necessarily. Crying at the start is common and usually passes within two or three lessons once the routine is familiar. The coach keeps early lessons short, playful and at the child's pace. If distress continues, we pause and try again in a few months.

What if my toddler swallows water?

Small amounts are normal and harmless. The coach teaches breath control gradually so submersions are brief and on cue, and never forces a child under.

How long are toddler lessons?

About 30 minutes. Toddlers tire and get cold quickly, and a short, positive lesson beats a long one that ends in tears.

What should we bring to the first lesson?

Swimwear, goggles, a towel and sunscreen. For babies and toddlers, a swim nappy. Long hair is easier under a cap. The coach brings any teaching aids such as kickboards or floats.

What happens when it rains?

Light rain without lightning does not usually stop a lesson, because swimmers are already wet and outdoor pools stay open. Heavy rain that affects visibility, or a pool closure by the condominium, means the lesson is paused and rescheduled.
